Root Canal Treatment in Fethiye
When deep decay or trauma reaches the nerve tissue (pulp), root canal treatment saves your tooth from extraction. At Europe Smile Center, root canal treatments are carried out painlessly under local anaesthesia by Dt. Damla Taşcıoğlu and Dt. Senanur Samur Korkut.
Root canal treatment (endodontics) means cleaning out the infected or inflamed nerve tissue inside the tooth, then shaping and sealing the root canals. The aim is simple: to save your natural tooth without extraction. At Europe Smile Center, root canal treatments are performed by Dt. Damla Taşcıoğlu and Dt. Senanur Samur Korkut; where needed, root and canal anatomy is assessed in detail with CBCT (three-dimensional tomography).
When is a root canal needed?
- Spontaneous toothache that wakes you at night
- Prolonged sensitivity to hot and cold (lingering after the trigger is gone)
- Pain when chewing or on pressure
- Swelling, abscess or a fistula on the gum
- Deep decay or a fracture reaching the nerve
- Discolouration of a tooth after trauma
How is the treatment done?
- Examination and X-ray: The tooth is assessed with an X-ray and, if needed, CBCT.
- Local anaesthesia: The area is fully numbed; no pain is expected during the procedure.
- Access and cleaning: Decay is removed, the infected nerve tissue is taken out, and the canals are disinfected and shaped.
- Canal filling: The canals are sealed to prevent reinfection.
- Final restoration: The tooth is rebuilt with a filling — on molars, usually with a zirconium or porcelain crown.
In most cases the treatment is completed in a single visit; if there is significant infection, a medicated dressing is placed in the canal and a second visit is planned.
Does it hurt?
Contrary to its reputation, a root canal is a treatment that relieves pain. It is carried out under local anaesthesia; apart from a feeling of pressure, no pain is expected. Mild sensitivity for a few days afterwards is normal and easily managed with simple painkillers. For patients with strong dental anxiety, our clinic also offers dental treatment under general anaesthesia.
What if the tooth cannot be saved?
Our priority is always to preserve the natural tooth. Where decay or fracture has gone too far, extraction and the implant planning that follows are handled under the same roof by our oral surgery team.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is root canal treatment painful?
No — the procedure is performed under local anaesthesia and no pain is expected during treatment. Mild sensitivity for a few days afterwards is normal and managed with simple painkillers.
How many visits does it take?
In most cases a single visit is enough. If there is significant infection, a medicated dressing is placed in the canal and a second visit is planned.
Will I need a crown afterwards?
Root-treated teeth can become more brittle over time; a crown is usually recommended, especially on molars, to reduce the risk of fracture. At your examination we decide together what suits your tooth best.
How long does a root-treated tooth last?
With good oral care and regular check-ups, a root-treated tooth can serve you well for many years.
Root canal or extraction?
Whenever possible, saving the natural tooth is the first choice. If the tooth cannot be saved, extraction and implant options are planned together with our oral surgery team.
