Wisdom & impacted tooth surgery in Fethiye

Comfortable, safe removal of impacted wisdom teeth by a specialist oral & maxillofacial surgeon — with digital imaging and modern surgical techniques, so you don’t feel pain.

An impacted tooth is one that cannot fully erupt into the mouth because it stays trapped within the jawbone or gum. It is most common in the wisdom teeth (third molars). Impacted teeth can often cause pain, crowding, infection, and decay or misalignment in the neighbouring teeth.

At Europe Smile Center, impacted tooth operations are carried out by oral & maxillofacial surgery specialist Dr. Dt. Ozan Akıncı, in a comfortable and safe way, using digital imaging and modern surgical techniques.

Why should an impacted tooth be removed?

Not every impacted tooth has to be removed straight away; however, removal is recommended in the following situations:

  • Recurring pain, swelling or infection (pericoronitis)
  • Pressing on a neighbouring tooth and causing decay or root resorption
  • Risk of disrupting the alignment of the teeth or affecting orthodontic treatment
  • Laying the ground for cysts or other pathologies

The decision is made individually, after an examination and a panoramic X-ray / 3D tomography.

How it’s done

  1. Examination and imaging: the tooth’s position in the jawbone and its relationship to the nerve and neighbouring structures are assessed.
  2. Local anaesthesia: the area is fully numbed; you feel no pain during the procedure.
  3. Surgical removal: depending on its position, the tooth is removed whole or in sections.
  4. Sutures and guidance: stitches are placed if needed, and you are given healing and aftercare advice.

A single impacted tooth operation usually takes 20–50 minutes, depending on how difficult the case is.

Is the procedure painful?

No. Because the procedure is done under local anaesthesia, you do not feel any pain. The only sensation you may have is an occasional mild feeling of pressure — this is normal and not uncomfortable. Patient comfort is our priority at the clinic, and procedures are completed in the most comfortable way possible.

Recovery after the procedure

  • Mild swelling and tenderness in the first 24 hours is normal; applying ice helps.
  • The recommended painkillers and (if needed) antibiotics should be taken regularly.
  • On the first day, avoid smoking, hot drinks and hard or hot foods.
  • If stitches need to be removed, this is usually done within 7–10 days.

Frequently asked questions

Is impacted tooth removal painful?

The procedure is done under local anaesthesia and you do not feel pain; there may only be a mild feeling of pressure. Any slight discomfort afterwards is easily kept under control with the recommended medication.

How many days does it take to heal?

The initial swelling and tenderness mostly settle within 2–3 days; full healing varies from person to person and case to case.

Do all wisdom teeth need to be removed?

No. Teeth that cause no problems, are in the right position and have fully erupted can simply be monitored. The decision is made at your examination.
