Sinus lift & bone graft in Fethiye

Not enough bone for implants? Sinus lift and bone grafting rebuild the height and thickness your jaw needs, opening the way for implant treatment — planned in detail by a specialist oral & maxillofacial surgeon.

The success of implant treatment depends on the jawbone where the implant will sit having enough height and thickness. Tooth loss, long periods without teeth, or inflammatory conditions gradually lead to bone loss. In these situations, the bone needs to be strengthened before an implant can be placed.

At Europe Smile Center, bone-strengthening procedures are carried out by oral & maxillofacial surgery specialist Dr. Dt. Ozan Akıncı, opening the way for implant treatment.

What is a sinus lift (sinus augmentation)?

In the back part of the upper jaw, above the teeth, there are sinus cavities. When the bone height in this area is insufficient for an implant, the floor of the sinus is gently raised in a controlled way and a bone graft is placed into the space created. This provides the bone height needed for the implant.

What is a bone graft?

A bone graft is a procedure that rebuilds the volume of resorbed or insufficient bone by supporting it with graft material. The graft may come from the patient’s own bone or from suitable biocompatible materials.

Is the procedure painful?

No. The procedure is carried out under local anaesthesia — or general anaesthesia in suitable cases — and you will not feel pain. You may only feel a slight sense of pressure. The procedure is completed comfortably, and any mild swelling afterwards is easily managed with the recommended medication.

Healing and afterwards

  • The graft takes a few months to mature, depending on the case; the implant is placed when the time is right.
  • In some cases, the graft and implant can be done in the same session.
  • The process is planned individually for you.

Frequently asked questions

My bone is insufficient — does that mean I can’t have implants?

In most cases, sinus lift or bone grafting strengthens the bone and makes implants possible. For upper-jaw cases with advanced bone loss, zygomatic implants can be an alternative.

How long after the procedure can the implant be placed?

The graft usually takes a few months to heal; the exact timing is decided after an examination and imaging.
