What is Botox?

In 1897, Emile Van Ermengem isolated toxin and he obtained from a patient suffering from botulism. He found that the cause was a bacterium and named this bacterium 'Clostridium Botulinum'. With this discovery, toxin that we now call 'Botox' was obtained. Its first use in medicine and its approval by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) was in 1981 when ophthalmologist Alan Scott used it to treatment of strabismus. After this process, botox began to be used in cosmetic field and became widespread. The use of botox for gummy smile started with Dr. Michael Kane (plastic surgeon) in 1992 and has survived to the present day with the additions of Niamtu and Mario Polo.

Botox Application Treatments

Botox is an enzyme obtained from the bacterium 'Clostridium Botulinum' at the end of a natural process. The first thing that comes to mind is, "Is it deleterious?"; Botox does not harm your body even in high dose applications. Botox acts as a buffer that stops nerve conduction. Thus, it prevents spasms (unwanted contractions) in the muscles and keeps the skin taut (increases the tension of skin). It is used not only in the cosmetic field. However, there are areas where botox treatment is beneficial in solving many problems such as migraine, teeth grinding, excessive sweating, gummy smile.

Things to Consider After Application

After the Botox application, the patient can return to daily life activities. Betwixt points to be considered, it is sufficient to avoid heavy physical activity for 24 hours and massage the application area.
